Frequently Asked Questions

Yes!  PVCC DEI takes “Original Content” requests for MCCCD employees and students through our training request form.  Community members can request original content development during consultation with Dr. Simmons.

Dr. Amina Simmons also known as “Dr. A” is the primary facilitator for the sessions listed on the training/workshop menu.  Occasionally, Dr. A works with MCCCD sister colleges, Maricopa Affinity groups, and community partners to bring in guest facilitators or co-facilitators based on the desired topic and/or details of the training request.

For example, PVCC  has partnered with Equality Maricopa to host LGBTQIA+ 101 virtual trainings; these trainings were free and open to any members of the MCCCD community.

Each training or workshop session is a little different based on the intended audience, modality,  topic, and core skills attendees should gain from participation. All sessions include a formal presentation (i.e. powerpoint) and may include interactive activities, small group discussions, and videos.

Please confirm the session Modality option is appropriate for your group and email any concerns about sessions that require participant movement to Dr. Amina Simmons

Each individual gains different things from these sessions. Each training/workshop also has “Core Skills” that indicate how the training/workshop topic relates to essential, transferable, and/or interpersonal skills to benefit participants' personal/professional development.

Facilitators provide a welcoming environment where attendees are invited to compassionately explore strengths, blindspots, and growth edges, using gentle directness and community guidelines.  Our current session feedback data indicates that over 80% of participants “strongly agree” they  “learned something” and over 70% of participants “strongly agree” they “felt a sense of belonging.”

No! PVCC DEI hosts free training/workshops sessions throughout the academic year that are free and open to the general public as well as the campus community.
