The Black Mountain campus hosts a number of events throughout the year, many of which are free and open to the public. Use the links below to find out more information about our upcoming events.
On October 11th, join the Phoenix Astronomical Society and Paradise Valley Community College for an anniversary celebration! PAS was established in 1948, and they will hold their 70th Anniversary Celebration from 5:00PM – 10:00PM at the PVCC Black Mountain location. The event will include indoor activities such as hands-on demos, short astronomy lectures, a display of astronomy artwork from local schools, and free raffles throughout the night! Lecture topics will include Astronomy 101, Combatting Light Pollution, A Local Home-Made Star Barn Planetarium, and the History of PAS. Then, at 7:00PM, the event will become a Star Party! The dark skies of Cave Creek provide the perfect opportunity for viewing planets, star clusters, nebulae, and galaxies. The Phoenix Astronomical Society and PVCC Astronomy Faculty will provide telescopes and help you make the most of this opportunity to view the night sky. Attendees will even have the chance to check out PVCC Black Mountain’s 14 inch Schmidt Cassegrain telescope. The telescope collects 3.136 times more light than the human eye, allowing viewers to explore the colors of the Orion Nebula and storms on Jupiter. Don’t miss this opportunity to celebrate; let PAS be your portal to the stars!
This event is free to the public and designed for all ages.
