Stage Combat

PVCC’s Theatre program offers a unique elective and CCL – Stage Combat – taught by our Theatre Director Andrea Robertson. She is one of only two certified Society of American Fight Directors (SAFD) in Arizona. The SAFD is an internationally recognized non-profit organization dedicated to promoting safety and fostering excellence in the art of stage combat. Students studying under Andrea gain high caliber stage combat training and mentorship designed to expand their careers in theatre.

Students can study all eight weapons, two per semester, and are then adjudicated by an SAFD Fight Master brought to PVCC from around the country. The two-part skills test includes students presenting scenes and performing set choreography created and taught by their instructor. The second part is a workshop in which the fight master can also request students perform additional techniques to satisfy their questions on a student’s skill level.

To learn more about the Stage Combat program, contact Andrea Robertson at 602-787-6580 or andrea.robertson@paradisevalley.edu.
