The PVCC Fire Science Program currently offers three (3) courses relating to technical rescue/rope technician training. Headed by Technical Rescue Program Coordinators John Sheridan, retired Engineer from the Phoenix Fire Department and former member of Phoenix Fire Technical Rescue & USAR Teams, & Tim Venard, Captain/Paramedic with the Phoenix Fire Department & active member of the Phoenix Fire Technical Rescue & USAR Teams, and both recognized in the industry for their specialized rescue skills and knowledge, these courses are designed to train the individual in all areas relating to technical rescue. Below is information about each of these hands-on courses:

FSC131: Introduction to Urban Technical Rescue
(Prerequisites: None)

Description: Practical application of safe rescue practices for urban technical rescue. Includes ropes and rope systems, trench rescue, confined-space rescue, swift water rescue, and rescue from collapsed structures.

FSC260: Technical Rope Rescue 1, 2, 3
(Prerequisites: FSC131, or permission of Program Director/Instructor)

Description: Concepts, techniques, and skills needed to support technical rope rescue. Meets Arizona Fire Marshal Office requirements for RR1, RR2, RR3 and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1670 Operational Rope Rescue.

FSC261: National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) Rope Technician
(Prerequisites: FSC260, or permission of Program Director/Instructor)

Description: Advanced anchor construction, use of elevated anchor points on difficult edges, horizontal rope systems, and study of force multipliers commonly experienced during high angle rope rescue. Meets the certification requirements for the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) 1670 for Operational Rope Rescue & NFPA 1006 for Technical Rescue Rope Technician.
