Faculty Senate

The primary functions of the Senate shall be to:

1. Serve as a communication channel among the PVCC Faculty, the PVCC Administration, the Faculty Executive Council, the MCCCD Administration, and the MCCCD Governing Board.

2. Serve as an arbiter of professional rights and responsibilities for PVCC Faculty.

3. Serve as the exclusive representative of PVCC Faculty to the PVCC Administration, the Faculty Executive Council, the MCCCD Administration, and to the MCCCD Governing Board with respect to academic and professional matters.

4. Select representatives to serve on administrative councils and on coordinating committees of Paradise Valley Community College and the Maricopa County Community College District.

5. Participate in the formation and implementation of education policies for Paradise Valley Community College and the Maricopa County Community College District.

Faculty Elections:

Election for the 2027-2028 PVCC Faculty Senate President-Elect:

1. A Nomination/Election Committee composed of three non-officer Senate members and/or non-Senate Residential Faculty, and shall be established by Feb. 15, 2027.
2. The President-Elect shall be elected between April 1 and April 30 of each year at dates to be determined by the Nomination/Election Committee.
3. Nomination/Election Committee charged with this election will communicate further information about the nomination and  election process in a timely manner, and in accord with the PVCC Faculty Senate Constitution of 2024.
4. Any residential faculty member who has completed one academic year of instruction or service at PVCC may self-nominate to be a candidate for the office of PVCC Faculty Senate President-Elect.
5. For the sake of transparency and full disclosure, nominees shall disclose and
6. share with the electorate whether or not they are members of the MCCFA, due to requirements noted in Article XVII, Section 2.B. of this Constitution.

Faculty (Division) Chair Elections in Spring 2027 (For three-year terms starting on July 1, 2028 through June 30, 2031):

1. The following divisions will have elections in Spring of 2027 to determine their faculty chair who will serve during the term of office starting on July 1, 2028 and ending on June 30, 2031:
   
   • Behavioral Science
   • Mathematics
2. The faculty senate shall conduct these elections as prescribed by the PVCC College Plan of 2024.  Procedures for these elections will be communicated in a timely manner by the election committee(s) appointed for these elections.
3. If a person elected as division chair (starting on July 1, 2027) is not the current chair, the chair-elect will “shadow” the current chair for the purposes of training during academic year 2026-2027.
