Honors Achievement Award Agreement

Honors Achievement Award students are required to maintain a 3.25 GPA, complete one co-curricular and complete a minimum of 6 credits including at least one 3-credit Honors Course, or Honors Project class with a grade of ā€˜Cā€™ or better to receive a scholarship.

To renew this scholarship, students must maintain a 3.25 GPA and submit a new application for each semester.

Applicants must qualify for financial assistance under AZ HB2008 (legal US citizens or lawful US presence) to be awarded a MCCCD Honors Scholarship.

Honors Program Eligibility Requirements

A Paradise Valley Community College student who has completed at least 12 graded credits in courses numbered 100 level or above with the Maricopa Community College District (MCCCD) and has a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.25 or higher may join the Honors Program and be eligible to receive an Honors Program Achievement Award during the semester in which an Honors course is completed.

The GPA is computed by including all completed MCCCD coursework. If a student has had a significant break in college attendance of at least five years, MCCCD coursework completed prior to the break may be excluded when determining Program eligibility. All non-MCCCD is excluded in determining eligibility requirements.

Honors Achievement Awards

The number of graded credits (including the Honors class) will determine the amount of the Honors Achievement Award:

  • 12 or more graded credits, $500 award
  • 9 to 11 graded credits, $325 award
  • 6 to 8 graded credits, $244 award

A student may enroll in more than one Honors class each semester. However, the maximum Achievement Award remains $500 per semester.

Any student who drops or withdraws from his/her only Honors class during any tuition reimbursement period is not eligible to receive the Honors Achievement Award. The student is responsible for paying any outstanding fees should an award be rescinded after the start of classes.

Membership Renewal

A student must renew Program membership and Honors Achievement eligibility if he/she maintains a cumulative MCCCD grade point average of 3.25 or higher, successfully completes an Honors class/project during the semester in which an Honors Achievement Award is received, and completes the required co-curricular activities as defined by the college Honors Program. If a student does not complete an Honors class/project during the semester in which he/she received an Achievement Award or does not complete the required co-curricular activities, that student is not eligible to automatically renew membership and must wait one semester before reapplying for the Achievement Award eligibility.

Honors Course Content

Students are encouraged to speak with Honors Program faculty to find out about Honors course content, anticipated time commitments, and expected student participation and work products.
