Paradise Valley Community College (PVCC) has welcomed three new members to its distinguished leadership team, each bringing unique expertise and a steadfast commitment to its mission, ensuring a shared vision and direction for the college.
After serving as interim college president since August 2023, Dr. Jana Schwartz has been appointed as PVCC’s seventh President. With more than 20 years of higher education experience, Dr. Schwartz is a passionate educator dedicated to the community college mission and the success of all students. In her role as president, she will provide enthusiastic leadership, support, and the dedication necessary to foster an environment that allows the tremendous community of faculty, staff, and students the opportunity to innovate, learn, and grow together.
Further strengthening PVCC’s mission to serve students and the community, Dr. Edmond (Eddie) Lamperez has joined as the Interim Vice President of Academic Affairs, and Dr. Anne Suzuki will continue as Vice President of Student Affairs after serving in an interim position.

"They’ve demonstrated remarkable expertise and the leadership qualities needed to build on the success of the college, as well as the broader Maricopa community."
Dr. Jana Schwartz – President
Since joining PVCC in 2019 as the vice president for student affairs and serving as interim president, Dr. Jana Schwartz has been a driving force behind creating equitable spaces where students thrive academically and personally. Her career includes significant roles such as dean of pathways and student success at Front Range Community College and director of the Center for Human Enrichment at the University of Northern Colorado, where she focused on supporting first-generation college students.
Dr. Schwartz holds a Ph.D. in higher education and student affairs leadership from the University of Northern Colorado, a master’s degree in student development from the University of Iowa, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Central College in Iowa. She continues to contribute to the academic community by teaching graduate courses at Arizona State University and other institutions.
“Education should connect with the whole person, inspire creativity, and foster a lifelong love of learning,” said Dr. Schwartz. “I am excited to lead PVCC in creating an environment where every student has the opportunity to succeed and grow.”
Dr. Edmond (Eddie) Lamperez – Interim Vice President of Academic Affairs
With a rich higher education and government background, Dr. Eddie Lamperez joins PVCC as the interim vice president of academic affairs. His career spans seven years in academic administration, specializing in assessment, accreditation, budgeting, program development, and strategic planning. Dr. Lamperez has taught at both secondary and post-secondary levels and has served as an urban planner and economic development analyst in municipal government.
Dr. Lamperez holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in political science, and a master’s degree in urban and regional planning from the University of New Orleans. He earned his doctorate in educational leadership and policy from Northern Arizona University. Known for his evidence-driven and strategic approach, Dr. Lamperez is committed to fostering innovation and empowering individuals.
“I believe in the transformative power of community colleges to elevate lives and promote social mobility,” Dr. Lamperez stated. “I look forward to working with the PVCC community to develop educational programs that meet the needs of our diverse student body.”
Dr. Anne Suzuki – Vice President of Student Affairs
With more than 23 years of experience in higher education, Dr. Anne Suzuki brings her passion for student success and community engagement as vice president of student affairs. Dr. Suzuki has held various leadership roles at both two-year and four-year institutions, where she has developed and implemented programs focused on student retention and success.
Dr. Suzuki holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and East Asian studies from the University of Arizona, a master’s degree in international and multicultural education from the University of San Francisco, and a doctorate in leadership and innovation from Arizona State University. She is a member of the National Asian Pacific Islander Council and is dedicated to reimagining higher education as a place of belonging and opportunity for all students.
