Start a Rewarding Career in Just a Year and a Half, Become an Enrolled Agent

If you’ve ever considered a career in accounting and numbers, there is no better time than the present to take a leap. With a current shortage of available tax preparers in the accounting industry and no foreseen slowdown in the demand for tax preparers, it’s a great opportunity for young and ambitious students to jump into the industry and make an immediate impact as an Enrolled Agent. It’s a skill for life!

Students both new to accounting and experienced number crunchers can get in on the ground level with a certification in Enrolled Agent (EA) and a guaranteed solid starting salary and extraordinary room for growth and career advancement.

In just 12 to 18 months, a student can earn their Enrolled Agent Certificate of Completion (CCL) at Paradise Valley Community College and begin working immediately in tax preparation. PVCC’s program prepares students to take the EA examination incorporating the use of current technologies, learning the basic rules of financial accounting, the legal, ethical, and social implications of business decisions, and the appropriate procedures to prepare taxes.

Increase Your Earning Potential

A federally licensed tax preparer is the highest credential awarded by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).  It’s an honorable designation with clout and great rewards. A tax preparer’s income potential for young professionals entering the industry is appealing with the highest salaries starting in the $50,000 range. And it’s just upwards from there.

Realistically, a student can work as an EA with a flexible schedule while completing their Associate of Applied Science (AAS) two-year degree in Accounting. They can also obtain additional CCLs such as PVCC’s Certified Bookkeeper and Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC).

Those who want to continue on and achieve their bachelor’s degree can do so with numerous certifications under their belt, as well as hands-on experience in the industry while finishing up at a four-year college or university. PVCC’s partner universities include Arizona State University, the University of Arizona, Grand Canyon University, and Northern Arizona University.

Already an Accountant?

With an AAS in Accounting, a student can add an EA designation to their list of qualifications in just one year, taking their accounting skills to the next level, as well as their earning potential. PVCC’s EA program consists of two semesters, nine credits each, including hands-on internship experience.

The sky’s the limit in this field with the highest paying salaries in the industry for auditors, tax examiners and collectors, as well as revenue agents and budget analysts.
