Fitness Goes Hand-in-Hand with Academic Success

We know you have many options when choosing a place to work up a sweat, burn calories, and clear your mind; from posh fitness centers to niche studios, it’s hard to choose.

Paradise Valley Community College encourages you to check out the newly updated campus fitness center, located on the southwest end of the property. The revamped facility offers a variety of options for students and faculty from classes for credit to non-credit options, all at incredibly reasonable prices.

Best of all, PVCC’s fitness center perks include free personal training. Our certified personal trainers will review your goals and exercise history, then design personalized programs to help you reach your health and fitness goals. For just $25 each semester for a non-credit membership, the fitness center staff provides fitness assessments, programming, personal training, aerobic classes, fit blitz classes, sport specificity training, and much more. Or sign up for credit classes in health, fitness and wellness, all of which qualify as transferring credits.

“No one argues about the health benefits of exercise,” said Korey Martinez, PVCC’s  Fitness/Wellness Technician. “What many don’t realize though is the impact it has on our brain that can have a positive impact on our academic success.”

Studies tie physical activity to better study habits, improving attention, and expanding comprehension. Exercise affects mood, vitality, alertness and can reduce stress levels. “The fitness center is our classroom and we are here to help you reach your optimal health and fitness goals,” Martinez said.

Tips for Establishing Good Health

  • Create SMART goals: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Reasonable and Time Bound.
  • Find intrinsic forms of motivation, meaning fun or challenging, not for external products, pressure or rewards.
  • Plan your meals ahead and eat the colors of the rainbow.
