Computer Science - Associate in Science (AS)
The Business/IT Division at PVCC is pleased to announce a new degree option for our students! Beginning in Fall 2019, students can pursue an Associate in Science, Computer Science (Major Code: 8601). The Associate in Science (AS), Computer Science degree provides the first two years of a four-year curriculum for students who wish to specialize in computer science.
With an associate degree, students may seek employment as a computer user support specialist. With a bachelor's degree, students may pursue employment opportunities leading to a variety of careers in a number of sectors including arts, sciences, manufacturing, engineering, medicine, energy, and security. Some examples of computer-science related jobs include*:
- creating computer games and graphics systems
- designing artificial intelligence systems
- developing mobile computing applications
- developing network security applications
- discovering data management and mining solutions for large scale data analytics
- inventing and implementing more efficient computing systems for managing data and information, including information retrieval and search on the Internet
