PVCC Re-Certified as an Arizona Veterans Supportive Campus

Paradise Valley Community College (PVCC) is proud to announce its re-certification as an Arizona Veterans Supportive Campus (AVSC) by the Arizona Department of Veterans Services (ADVS), reaffirming the college’s enduring commitment to supporting military-affiliated students.

This official notification confirms that PVCC has met the requirements set forth in Arizona Revised Statute §41-609 and is designated as an Arizona Veterans Supportive Campus for a two-year recertification period. First earning the designation in 2017, PVCC has consistently met the state’s standards every year since.

The Arizona Veterans Supportive Campus designation recognizes colleges that demonstrate, through intentional programming, services, and measurable outcomes, a deep understanding of the unique needs of Veteran students and a commitment to their success.

“This recognition reflects the collective effort of our entire campus community,” said Christina Calderon,  student services manager, Veterans Services Office. “From faculty and staff to student support teams, everyone plays a role in ensuring our Veteran students feel respected, supported, and empowered to succeed both in and out of the classroom.”

To maintain the AVSC designation, campuses must meet expectations across four core areas identified by ADVS, known as CARE:

  • Connect to the Culture: PVCC actively listens to Veteran students through feedback, satisfaction surveys, and data-informed assessment, using their input to strengthen campus-wide partnerships, policies, and programs.
  • Ask the Right Questions: Through orientations, workshops, and training, the college ensures students and employees understand available resources, policies, and the unique challenges Veterans may encounter—both within Veterans Services and across the broader campus.
  • Respond Effectively: PVCC provides peer mentoring opportunities, targeted support programs, and dedicated resource centers to help Veterans navigate academic, personal, and transitional challenges.
  • Engage the Military and Veteran Community: The college builds strong relationships with community-based Veteran organizations, promotes access to resources, and participates in events that honor and support military-connected students.

As a certified Arizona Veterans Supportive Campus, PVCC remains committed to providing comprehensive support for student Veterans, faculty, and staff by integrating Veterans programs, resources, and awareness throughout the college. This commitment fosters a positive and successful educational experience while highlighting PVCC as a campus that values the leadership, experience, and diverse perspectives Veterans bring to higher education.

PVCC is honored to receive this designation once again and grateful for its continued partnership with the Arizona Department of Veterans Services, the Arizona Coalition for Military Families, and the State Approving Agency in supporting Arizona’s service members, Veterans, and military-connected students.
