In celebration of our graduating Honors students, PVCC is proud to highlight the inspiring stories of those who have excelled academically and personally through the Honors program.
For Paradise Valley Community College business student Kim Rivas, being a part of the Honors Program is more than just academic excellence—it’s about growth, belonging, and discovering who you are. Joining the program became a turning point in her own college journey. But before she found her stride, she admits the Honors Program initially felt intimidating.
“Everyone seemed so prepared, so smart, and I wasn’t sure if I belonged,” she shared. “But it didn’t take long for me to realize the Honors Program isn’t about perfection—it’s about growth, curiosity, and connection.”
Pursuing a degree in Business, Kim found her place through engaging coursework, collaborative projects, and a supportive network of peers and mentors. “I’ve been pushed to think critically, reflect deeply, and take ownership of my learning,” she said. “It’s one of the most transformative parts of my academic journey.”
To students who may be considering joining Honors, Rivas has one clear message: “Do it! You won’t regret it.” She emphasizes the program’s unique ability to build a tight-knit community where students are genuinely supported. “You’ll discover strengths you didn’t know you had, and you’ll walk away not just with a stronger transcript, but with a stronger sense of who you are.”
Looking ahead, Rivas plans to continue her studies at PVCC by enrolling in the college’s new Bachelor’s in Accounting program. She is excited for this next chapter and said she feels well-prepared thanks to her Honors experience. “It didn’t just sharpen my academic skills,” she said. “It taught me how to think critically, communicate confidently, and lead with empathy.”
