PVCC Wins Big at DECA Fall Leadership Conference

Students from Paradise Valley Community College DECA Chapter, who are also members of PVCC’s Business and Technology (BAT) Club were big winners at last month’s DECA Fall Leadership Conference (FLC) competition at Arizona State University (ASU).

DECA’s FLC attracts higher education institutions from all across Arizona including ASU, University of Arizona, Grand Canyon University, Northern Arizona University, as well as many Maricopa County Community College District colleges. Breakout events at the conference include workshops, team building activities, a keynote address, and contests where students present in various categories. PVCC students emerged victoriously:

  • First Place – Joseph Luther and Joseph Robinson (Category: Business to Business Marketing)
  • Second Place – Luka Cooley (Category: Hotel and Lodging)
  • Third Place – Alivia Lochhead (Category: Marketing Management)
  • Third Place – Noah Kugler and Montserrat Rosario (Category: Business Ethics)
  • Third Place – Matthew Mouritsen and Will Zhou (Category: Event Planning)

PVCC’s DECA chapter, which is a part of the BAT club, has grown significantly since debuting in 2020. The BAT club also provides students with opportunities to prepare for life after college in the business world including resume writing, mock interviews, dressing for success and etiquette training.

“We couldn’t be prouder of these dynamic students,” said Dr. Kishore Dash, business faculty and advisor to PVCC’s BAT club and DECA chapter. Professor Robert McCanless and Dr. Dash oversaw the students at the event, providing mentoring and guidance. “FLC is just the start for these young professionals. Reaching the top of the mountain is now within their reach.”
