As North Phoenix’s Taiwanese community continues to grow, this panel brings together community members whose lives and experiences are tied to Taiwan in various ways. Through their personal stories and cross-cultural experiences, our panelists will introduce key aspects of Taiwanese culture and share practical tips for building stronger intercultural connections. Join us for an insightful conversation that celebrates community, curiosity, and understanding.

Irving Chien

Irving Chien

Irving Chien serves as Counsel for Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) Arizona Corporation, where he focuses on construction contracting, construction disputes, and corporate governance. Before joining TSMC Arizona, Irving practiced employment and corporate law at Baker McKenzie in Taipei, representing a diverse portfolio of clients in complex labor disputes, day-to-day employment issues, and matters related to mergers and acquisitions. Prior to his legal career, Irving co-founded Aelite Co., Ltd., a rehabilitation devices company, where he held a cross-functional role accountable for product development, sales, and exhibitions. Irving earned his Juris Doctor from Santa Clara University School of Law in 2011 and a Bachelor of Arts in Global Studies from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2008. He is a U.S.-licensed attorney, admitted to the State Bar of California in 2012 and the State Bar of Arizona in 2022.

Kimberly Chiu

Kimberly Chiu

Kimberly Chiu relocated from Taiwan to Phoenix with her husband and two daughters in 2022, as one of the first TSMC assignee families. She is currently a Senior Administrative Specialist at Prowell LLC, a supplier supporting TSMC’s cleanroom operations in Arizona. Outside of work, Kimberly is dedicated to helping Taiwanese families integrate into the local community. She organizes extracurricular groups for TSMC families, serves on the Phoenix–Taipei Sister City Committee, and is actively involved in the Taiwanese Association in Phoenix, leading dragon boat-related initiatives and community engagement. A long-time Tzu Chi volunteer, Kimberly supports youth activities, food bank services, dental clinics, and medical outreach in Tijuana, Mexico. She also leads the CrAZyCuddle Fish Dragon Boat Youth Team, bringing students and families together through teamwork, culture, and service. Prior to moving to the US, Kimberly served as a Marketing Specialist at Kingston Technology in Hsinchu, managing marketing campaigns across the Asia-Pacific region. Kimberly holds a Master of Business Administration from Benedictine University in Illinois and a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science and Biotechnology from Tunghai University in Taiwan.

Daniel Hoyle

Daniel Hoyle

Daniel Hoyle is an international education professional with extensive experience in international recruiting and admissions, international partnerships, academic services, and student experience. He currently serves as Senior Director of International Student and Scholar Experience at Arizona State University, where he leads initiatives supporting international students and scholars through programming, outreach, college and school relations, community engagement, advocacy, targeted demographic initiatives, and retention efforts. Fluent in Mandarin Chinese, Daniel lived in southern Taiwan for two years and remains actively engaged with the Taiwanese student community at ASU, including advising the Taiwanese Student Association and helping host ASU’s first Taiwan Symposium in Spring 2025. He has also traveled extensively throughout China and visited countries in Europe and Africa. Daniel holds a Master of Arts in Chinese Studies from Valparaiso University and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Brigham Young University–Idaho. Outside of work, he volunteers with his church’s youth organization and enjoys the outdoors, reading, spending time with family and friends, and exploring global cuisines.

Nina JoJo

Nina JoJo

Nina JoJo is a Wellness Fitness Senior Technician, Group Fitness Instructor, and Adjunct Faculty member at Paradise Valley Community College, where she leads employee wellness initiatives and creates and teaches yoga courses focused on mindfulness, mobility, and sustainable self-care. Born and raised in Taiwan, Nina brings a bicultural perspective shaped by her upbringing in Taiwan and her professional journey in the United States. Navigating between cultures has deepened her appreciation for connection, adaptability, and belonging, which she carries into her work each day. Since last spring, she has guided PVCC’s employee wellness programming with a strong emphasis on employee engagement, organizational well-being, and cultivating a positive campus culture. Through her work, Nina views wellness as a holistic way of living that supports the mind, body, relationships, and sense of purpose, informed by both Taiwanese cultural values and Western wellness practices. Outside of her professional work, Nina enjoys home projects, outdoor activities, and spending quality time with her husband and their four dogs.
