In the Heat of the Kiln

In the Heat of the Kiln

In the Heat of the Kiln is a collaborative performance by PVCC Visual Art, Music,  Dance and Theater students and faculty. Inspired by the 13th century poem: The Rubiyat of Omar Khayaam, our play is about transformation.  When students enroll in an art class, music,  dance or theater class, they often are surprised by how important that art form becomes, and that a passion is ignited.

This event takes place in the ceramic studio with students engaged in making various objects in clay and sharing their own stories about how they came to be so enraptured by the material, the processes, and the environment.

Clay is transformed by the heat of the fire inside the kiln when it changes from a soft,  malleable, amorphous material, to a hard, permanent firm that is called ceramic. Similar to the changes that occur when a student is transformed from being unsure of their identity, their life purpose, to having a passion for adding beauty to the world.

There will be live music by PVCC faculty, and dance pieces by students as part of the whole performance.
