Program Overview

Psychology explains general principles that govern behavior while recognizing individual differences. Psychology spans all aspects of human development, from prenatal development to addressing the needs of an aging population. Future psychologists can envision prospective work environments in anything from educational settings to private practices, human resources to not-for-profit community agencies, and scientific research centers to mental healthcare organizations.

The Psychology program will help you gain the skills to identify interrelationships between biological, psychological, and socio-cultural processes and utilize scientific findings and theories to generate new ideas and problem solve. For a truly limitless future, the study of psychology prepares you for endless career paths.

Students at any Maricopa Community College may need to complete courses at more than one of our colleges.

Why Paradise Valley Community College?

The Psychology Department’s faculty at Paradise Valley Community College cares deeply about student success, not just in the classroom, but in life! The well-being of our students is the driving force behind our curriculum and approach to learning and educating. We always have our students’ best interests in mind.

As part of our faculty's commitment to students, we offer “no/low cost classes”, limiting the amount of out-of-pocket expenses students incur on course materials. And to accommodate our students’ busy lives, PVCC has implemented four flexible learning formats for classes: in person (on hiatus due to Covid), live online, live online hybrid, and asynchronous online classes.

However, of all the great aspects of PVCC’s Psychology department, we are most proud of our award-winning chapter of Psi Beta, the national honor society for students interested in psychology at two-year and community colleges. Established at PVCC in 2017, we have been recognized with two Chapter Excellence awards from the national Psi Beta organization in our short three-year existence.

If you’re interested in Psychology and want to leave your mark on our award winning program, here’s your opportunity! Receive an outstanding, low-cost education from knowledgeable and caring instructors, and add your name to the list of distinguished PVCC Psi Beta members, engraved on our Psi Beta Distinguished Members plaque for all time!
