Dr. Dina Preston-Ortiz is currently serving as a residential faculty member within the Maricopa Community College District in the area of Business/IT. Based on her small business background and student feedback, Professor Preston-Ortiz developed the Small Business Startup Certificate Program, and a partnership with Fresh Start Women's Foundation (premise: Educate a woman and you educate a family) to help women start their own businesses. Professor Preston-Ortiz extended the reach of this program by developing an additional partnership with the Federal Corrections Institute to offer the Small Business Start-Up Certificate inside the men's medium security institution and women's camp (on hold due to COVID-19).

A former Division Chair and current Program Director Professor Preston-Ortiz is a recipient of the 2019 AACC Dale P. Parnell Faculty Distinction Recognition. In 2018 she was recognized with a National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development Excellence Award. She has also lectured globally and as a workshop moderator on behalf of the U.S. State Department under President Obama’s Statecraft Initiative. In 2020, Dr. Preston Ortiz published a leadership book titled, 31 Cents to 43 Countries: Hardcore Tips to Increasing Profits. The book was a No. 1 release on Amazon in the Entrepreneurship and Outsourcing section and is geared towards empowering both existing leaders and entrepreneurs.
