Dr. Catherine “Cathy” Mendoza grew up in Santa Fe, NM and is a first-generation college student. She completed her BA degree from Ft. Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, a Master of Counseling Degree from ASU, and her Doctorate from Walden University.

Dr. Mendoza studied abroad in San Miguel de Allende, Gto., Mexico, and then again in Spain. She volunteered for one year in an orphanage in Michoacán, Mexico, worked as an elementary school counselor in Tucson and Mesa, and as a Junior High School Counselor in Tempe. She started her work in Higher Education at Chandler-Gilbert Community College as an adjunct counselor, and as the Director of International Education. Cathy joined PVCC as Residential Counseling Faculty member in 2002 and has enjoyed teaching a variety of counseling courses. In addition, has served on many committees and is currently co-advisor for the UNoS club.

Dr. Mendoza believes that she found her passion in counseling and teaching in the community college setting because she has the opportunity to provide learning and personal growth experiences for a diverse student body.

Some of her hobbies include reading, yoga, watching foreign films, bike riding, and traveling. She has two grown daughters, one works for the U of A in the Nutrition Division, and the other works as an architect for Meow Wolf, in Santa Fe, NM. The newest member of her family is a sweet male kitten adopted from Midwestern University Veterinary students.
