Dr. Caron Sada is the creator of the Z Model with a goal of “facilitating positive organizational change in higher ed while delivering student success.” At PVCC, Caron implemented Women’s History Month (2015, 2016), Bright Stars in Paradise, Club Z, and other Z initiatives as part of interdisciplinary collaborations with Kelly Fitzsimmons-Burton, David Pegram, Sheila Beeler, Jon Hayashi, and Bruce McHenry.
Some of their successes include earning a Learning Grant, Phase I and Phase II Innovation Pipeline Grants and building the Z Connect Endowment Fund open to any students in the 10 Maricopa Community Colleges.
On campus they’ve engaged hundreds of students in large student led, student centered events/programming such as the Z Summits and Chats on the Grass - interdisciplinary critical/creative thinking and skill building experiences demonstrating integrative, integrated, sustainable, scalable designs. More than 300 students have completed the Z Achievement process with 6 students becoming PVCC All USA Scholars earning full ride scholarships to Arizona universities.
On the PVCC campus, Club Z has earned (3) three Student Life Innovation of the Year awards, a Diversity and Inclusion award and a Club Advisor award. Caron’s work has also been featured nationally through the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship (e.g., MCCCD as their National Center of Practice for Student Engagement) and the League for Innovation in the Community College (e.g., Innovatus 2020, Innovatus 2021).
Caron has also partnered with David Bradley on a Horizon Grant connecting art and psychology students and through a multi-partner National Endowment for the Arts grant funding leisure arts for Veterans with Caron serving as the team’s Primary Investigator. In addition to teaching Psychology at PVCC and coordinating Innovation and Entrepreneurship initiatives through the Maricopa Center for Learning and Innovation (MCLI) at the District Office, Caron is a social entrepreneur and artist through her company CaronsArt LLC.
