Professor Andrea Robertson runs the theatre department at PVCC where she produces and directs productions, advises students in the AAFA-Theatre degree as well as several other certificates including the new Stage Combat certificate she helped to develop. Her students participate in the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival each year. The students gain insights into their performances and design work through the respondents that give feedback after a performance. Students are also nominated to attend the Regional Festival where they compete with students from across the region (community college students to graduate level) for scholarships.
Andrea is one of two Society of American Fight Director certified teachers in the State and is proud to give PVCC students the opportunity to certify with the SAFD in different weapons styles. She also runs her own stage combat company- Fight Call, LLC (www.fightcall.com). She works with schools and theatres across Metro Phoenix including the Arizona Opera with fight direction and education.
While the COVID-19 pandemic has changed life for everyone it has hit performing students especially hard. This last year her students helped to create new and different ways to continue to perform. She tries to empower her students to think and live creatively.
