Director- Jenny Weitz, M.S.
Professor Jenny Weitz loves the power of the night sky, the openness of the universe, and the sense of peace that you get when you look up. She is dedicated to achieving community engagement in science and exploration, and has taught astronomy at Paradise Valley Community College since 2010.
Jenny worked diligently to obtain a Bachelor of Science Honors Degree with High Honors in Physics from Sweet Briar College in Virginia. Her subsequent disciplined graduate research in cosmology earned her an M.S. in Physics from the University of California at Davis.
She currently teaches AST112: Introduction to Stars and Galaxies in person, AST101/102: Survey of Astronomy online, and the AST294AB: Honors Explores Telescope Camping Trip.
Co-Director- Doug Berry, Ph.D.
Dr. Berry has served as an Honors Director since 2013, and has taught psychology in the Maricopa District since 2005. In addition, he is the Chair for the Behavioral Sciences Division. He currently teaches an Honors section of Introduction to Psychology, the Honors Lecture Forum, and Sport Psychology.
Dr. Berry earned his Ph.D. in psychology from Capella University, M.A. in Sport and Exercise Psychology from Argosy University, and B.A. in psychology from Olivet Nazarene University. When he is not teaching he enjoys hiking, mud runs, coaching, and cars.
Co-Director- John Douglass, Ph.D.
John Douglass is in his fifth year as an Honors Director at PVCC, and eleventh year teaching at Paradise Valley Community College. He currently teaches the honors hybrid section of GPH 111, two sections of the Honors Lecture Forum, one online sections of GPH 211 Landform Processes, and an in person section of GCU 221 Arizona Geography.
John earned his doctorate from Arizona State University in Geography, Master’s degree from Northern Arizona University in Rural Geography, and Bachelor’s from Northern Arizona University in Geography and a minor in Geology. When he is not teaching he enjoys hiking with his puppy dog, playing D&D, and disc golf.
Program Coordinator- Alexis Peterson, B.S.
Alexis Peterson serves as the Honors Program Coordinator and has been an employee at Paradise Valley Community College since 2014. She has worked in various roles at PVCC, such as Life Sciences Department evening secretary, ACE Program coordinator and academic advisor, prior to transitioning to the Honors Department. Alexis is a PVCC Honors Program graduate and graduated from the W.P. Carey School of Business in December 2016 with her Bachelor of Science in Management.
When not in the Honors Office, Alexis likes to spend time with friends, practice her Spanish and learn about new things. She also enjoys relaxing and watching her favorite TV shows, like The Office, How I Met Your Mother, Arrested Development, and Friends.
Office Assistant- Bailey Wilson, A.A.
Bailey Wilson is the Honors Office Program Assistant. She was previously an Honors student herself at Paradise Valley Community College where she discovered she wanted to major in Psychology. She is now finishing up her Psychology degree at Arizona State University, in addition to a double major in Communication. She plans on graduating in the Fall 2017.
When not in school, she enjoys going on road trips and hanging out with friends.
