Dr. Janet Ortega is the Interim Vice President of Administrative Services at Paradise Valley Community College. Serving double duty, Dr. Ortega also works as Vice President of Organizational Effectiveness and Technology at South Mountain Community College (SMCC), a sister school in the Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD).
As a 26-year veteran of MCCCD, Dr. Ortega has a long history in both Administrative Services and Student Services. She began with the district in 1990 as a federal work-study student at Chandler-Gilbert Community College (CGCC), advancing to roles in Financial Aid, Accounts and Receivable, Advisement, and Recruitment before moving to the Division of Administration Services in 2002. From there, she held positions as Director of Business Services and the Associate Dean of Finance and Business Services at CGCC. She joined SMCC in 2010.
Dr. Ortega’s primary role is leadership and support for Business Services, College Technology Services, Facilities Services and the College Police. She also enjoys teaching adjunct at CGCC, specializing in business courses, and acts as an advisor/mentor for the Women’s Leadership Group and the MCCCD Aspiring Leaders Program. Serving the community, Dr. Ortega sits on the Board of Directors for the Changing Outcomes for Youth Foundation, an organization investing in student success in the Maricopa Regional School District.
Dr. Ortega earned an Associate’s Degree from CGCC, before attending Barrett Honors College at Arizona State University in 2000, where she earned her Bachelor’s of Science in Business Management and graduated Magna Cum Laude. She holds her Master’s of Science in Administration from ASU and a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University.
