On Saturday, April 6, two very special guests were present for Puma Softball's game against South Mountain Community College. Dot Wilkinson and Billie Harris came out to support Puma Softball, and Billie Harris also performed the National Anthem. Wilkinson and Harris gave the Pumas good luck as they swept the Cougars 6-1 and 8-2.
PVCC Baseball (25-16-1) is tied for fourth place in the ACCAC Division II with three weeks left in the regular season. The Pumas are 11-15 in Conference play this season and are within two games of first place in the tight Division II playoff race. With only 12 games remaining, the Pumas have been ramping up for a strong finish to the 2019 season.
Sophomore Israel Oloyede won the Weight Throw competition at the NJCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championships in Pittsburg, KS with a throw of 20.89m. Oloyede’s throw not only won the National Title, but he also broke his own NJCAA and School Records while setting a new NJCAA Indoor National Championships meet record.
The PVCC Women's Tennis team lost two tough matches this week.
The Pumas (2-3) played Eastern Arizona College on Tuesday at PVCC and lost 9-0. The match had closely contested matches especially by sophomores Leah Bookbinder and Calli Chance whom both lost their matches in thrilling three-setters. Calli lost her match 4-6,6-4,10-7 and Leah lost her match with a score of 6-3,4-6,11-9.
Puma Softball (7-15) is on a hot streak. After starting the season 3-15, the Pumas have put up four straight wins. They were on a tear last week sweeping both GateWay and Scottsdale. The Pumas will look to continue the winning streak when they take on Glendale Community College at home on Thursday, March 14 at 1pm.
