Puma Women’s Soccer lost to Mesa on October 17 and rebounded on October 19 to beat Chandler-Gilbert.
Paola Sanchez opened up the scoring in the first minute of the game against MCC to go up 1-0. After the Thunderbirds tied the game, Ally Becerra put the Pumas up 2-1 before the first water break. Late in the second half, MCC tied the game at 2-2. It looked as if the game would end in a tie when MCC had a counter-attack that ended the game in the final minute with a golden goal.
With a playoff spot on the line, the Pumas took on Chandler-Gilbert in the final game of the regular season. Mari Labansat and Diana Sanchez each scored in the first half, putting PV up 2-1 at the break. After CGCC tied the game early in the second half, it was Labansat who struck again to give the Pumas the win and secure a spot in the Region 1 playoffs.
The Pumas will have to wait until Wednesday, October 23 to see who they will face in the playoffs. The first round of Region I playoffs will start on October 29.
