The PVCC Women's Soccer team has kicked off 2016 with a perfect 5-0 start, more than earning their pre-season national ranking at number 10.
With victories over nationally-ranked Pima (1-0), Phoenix College (2-0), Cochise, (6-0) Chandler-Gilbert (3-1) and South Mountain (8-0), the Pumas' record consists of five wins, 20 goals scored, and only a single goal allowed. Sophomore striker Jamie Iurato has notched 10 goals in this span of matches and earned ACCAC's Player of the Week honors.
Anchored by sophomore defenders and team captains Janessa Dunbar and Kelly Smith, the Pumas back line has been virtually impenetrable to date. While Arielle Perez has played a vital role in all four shutouts, the PVCC goal keeping corps is as deep as any college program and includes returning sophomore All-Conference second team goalkeeper Madison Lucas and freshman standout Jasmine Allianic. Dunbar was also recently named ACCAC Player of the Week, while Perez was named ACCAC Goalkeeper of the Week.
"We are pleased to be undefeated at this point," said Puma coach Jon Ruzan. "Our schedule has featured some of our conference's top teams, and getting through this unscathed has proven our mettle. This team is more than ready to compete."
The Pumas return to action Thursday, September 8 against Glendale Community College at 7pm. The game will be held at Pioneer Park.
Great work Pumas!
