The PVCC Women’s Soccer Team (18-5-1) fell to #3 Iowa Western Community College (17-2) 5-1 in a rainy opening game of Pool C in the 2018 NJCAA Division I Women’s Soccer National Tournament in Foley, AL.
In the first half, both teams had multiple chances to take the lead, but neither were able to capitalize on their opportunities. As both teams left the field at halftime with no score, the rain showed up.
The Pumas took advantage of the rain in the 65th minute of the game when Sophomore Karina Lopez Martinez put the ball in the back of the Reivers net to put the Pumas up 1-0. Unfortunately, the lead did not last long and the Reivers tied the game just one minute later in the 66th minute. Another minute later in the 67th, the Reivers took the lead and never looked back. Iowa Western scored their next three goals in a nine minute span, defeating the Pumas 5-1.
The Pumas will face #6 Navarro College tomorrow, November 13 at 3:00pm CT. This is their only chance to stay in the tournament.
Good luck Pumas!
