The #3 PVCC Women’s Soccer team (16-4-1) defeated #6 Chandler-Gilbert (7-10-3) 3-1 in the first round of the NJCAA Region I Playoffs. With the win, the Pumas advance to face #2 Phoenix College on Wednesday evening in the semifinals.
The Pumas got off to a fast start when Sophomore Haley German scored in the ninth minute off an assist from Sophomore Katie Townsend. In the 29th minute of the game, the Coyotes evened the score at one all. Just before halftime, the Pumas capitalized when Freshman Marisela Labansat scored in the 44th minute, giving the Pumas a 2-1 lead going into the second half. Freshman Sydney Griffin gave her team the insurance goal in the 73rd minute when she scored off an assist from Sophomore Ashley Gibson, bringing the score 3-1. The Pumas had 22 shots, 11 of those on goal.
The Pumas will face Phoenix College on Wednesday, October 24 at 6:00pm at Phoenix College in the semifinal game. Because the game is a NJCAA Region I hosted event, there will be an entry fee; adults are $5, students/seniors are $3.
