Paradise Valley Community College competed yesterday in the ACCAC Cross Country Championship at Glen Lakes Golf Course in Glendale. The Pumas finished second in both the women’s and men’s races, scoring 57 points for the women and 48 for the men. Central Arizona College won both races with scores of 39 on the women’s side and 22 for the men.
The women were led by freshman Mikaila Lockhart who placed 6th overall in a time of 19:23.9 over the 5000m course. Sophomore Lacey Fron gave the Pumas their second Top-10 finisher crossing the line in 8th place with a time of 20:05.9. Rounding out the top five (scorers) were freshman Taylore Lowry in 11th (20:27.2), sophomore Danah Smith, 14th (20:38.6), and freshman Nalia Ramirez, 18th (20:50.1). Other finishers for the Pumas included freshman Kylie Lockhart, 28th (22:18.3), freshman Jacque Dinauer, 29th (22:35.6), and freshman Awuoi Matiop, 33rd (23:48.7). Katherine Bruno from Pima College won the women’s race. Lockhart, Fron, Lowry, Smith and Ramirez all earned ACCAC All-Conference honors.
The men’s team was led by sophomore Jason Ortega who finished third overall, covering the 8000m course in a time of 25:31.5. Following Ortega, and earning Top-10 honors, were freshmen Danny Marquez in 7th (25:50.5) and Michael Barney, 8th (25:55.1). Completing the score for PV were freshmen Joel Mendez, 16th (26:48.1) and Cooper Wantland, 18th (27:08.5). The Pumas also had strong finishes from freshman Hunter Murchland, 19th (27:16.8), sophomore Wesley Cook, 24th (27:38.3), freshman Aaron Fawley, 30th (28:08.2), freshman Bak Reyak, 36th (28:46.7), sophomore Christian Garcia, 37th (28:57.4), and sophomore Nicolas Caruso, 40th (29:42.8). Ikageng Gaorekwe from Central Arizona College won the men’s race. Ortega, Marquez, Barney and Mendez earned ACCAC All-Conference honors.
