Former Puma Josh Bristyan was named the 2017-2018 ACCAC/Region I Male Student-Athlete of the Year after his specular sophomore season at Paradise Valley. The criteria for the selection is based on academic achievement, athletic ability/achievement, community service and leadership.
Nominees for this award, given annually by the ACCAC/Region I, are submitted by the conferences athletics directors.
Bristyan, a 2016 graduate of Horizon High School, was named First Team All-Conference and All-Region as well as First Team NJCAA All-American for his performance during the 2018 season. Bristyan received his second ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Award® in 2018 posting a .976 fielding percentage in 59 games for the Pumas. He led the NJCAA with 178 assists and posted 112 putouts on the season. Bristyan also delivered at the plate, leading the Pumas with a .387 AVG, securing 84 hits in 217 at bats.
After his Sophomore season, Bristyan transferred to Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA to continue his Baseball career with the Bulldogs.
