Placement Testing

Welcome to Accuplacer

Why a math placement test?

Community college students enter school at many different points in their lives combined with varying levels of math skill and understandings of key concepts. There are often breaks between semesters which can result in forgetting pieces of course content necessary for success in the following course.

The cumulative nature of mathematics means that a missing concept at one level will likely impact learning at a later point. We also understand that while you might have successfully completed a particular math course, some of the necessary skills and concepts might be a bit rusty. We have observed that some students who need to review only a few topics are often bored when required to repeat entire courses to make up their deficiencies and this boredom often leads to failure. We would like to help you prevent that.

Our primary goal is to help you succeed the first time you enroll in a math course while minimizing the need to take classes in which you remember most, but not enough, of the content to suggest success. Where manageable deficiencies are documented, we want to provide you the means to learn that skill set in order to continue your with your studies.
