Paradise Valley Community College is a licensed Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) provider under the IAFF/IAFC Wellness Fitness Initiative (#LL-016).  We put on CPAT testing each Fall and Spring semester via our FSC130: CPAT class, and have partnered with The Great Ape Gym for students in need of official CPAT testing.  For more information about the CPAT, test offerings, and frequently asked questions, please click on the respective area below.

The IAFF/IAFC Fire Service Joint Labor Management Wellness/Fitness Initiative Candidate Physical Ability Test© consists of eight separate events. The CPAT is a sequence of events requiring the candidate to progress along a predetermined path from event to event in a continuous manner. This test was developed to allow fire departments a means for obtaining pools of trainable candidates who are physically able to perform essential job tasks at fire scenes.

NOTE: If you've never taken a CPAT before, we highly recommend taking our CPAT class, FSC130, to become familiar with the test, course layout, course events, and physical fitness needed to be successful. Please see the below "FSC130 - CPAT Class" section for course information, and visit the class schedule for course offerings.

FSC130: CPAT is designed to familiarize the student with the IAFF Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT), course layout, course events, as well as teach proper technique and physical training needed in order to successfully pass the CPAT.

The course is offered each Fall and Spring semesters, and consists of six (6) two-hour training sessions, followed by an official CPAT test.  It is offered as a "Credit by Exam" course, meaning you and the designated course instructor will schedule the required training sessions around your and the instructors availability.  There are no set days and times, you just need to complete the training sessions and official CPAT within the designated semester dates.  Please visit the class schedule for course offerings.

*All training and testing will take place at our fitness partner's location, The Great Ape Gym, located at 1720 W. Buchanan Street, Phoenix, AZ 85007.

For those interested in this course, please email Brandon Sunder with your full name, student ID (ex: 31234567), and best contact phone number for approval to enroll.
