The FESTIVAL OF TALES AND MUSIC is a fun day of reading, literacy and cultural activities for children that include storytelling, arts and crafts, games, face painting, live music, food trucks and much more!
In its seventh year at PVCC, the FESTIVAL OF TALES AND MUSIC brings books to life through the art of storytelling and provides FREE books to children who participate in the activities. PVCC’s Art of Storytelling classes, Club Ed and the Divison of Fine & Performing Arts present this free event for children in the community. Storytelling sessions are at 10 am, 11 am, and 1 pm. In addition, PVCC’s Partners in Art Club will provide demonstrations of pottery making and clay sculpting, and science faculty will lead a walking tour of a scale model solar system, with brief stories at each stop.
The FESTIVAL OF TALES AND MUSIC engages community college students in the teaching and learning process through storytelling. Since its inception, the festival has grown from just 250 participants to more than 900, with more than 100 volunteers at each event. In the past five years, more than 25,000 new books have been given away to children, many of whom come from low-income families.
The festival also features live musical performances by Heidi Swedberg and the Sukey Jump Band (childrens music), Tambores de Paraíso (world music), PVCC student music ensembles and local elementary schools and community groups.
The FESTIVAL OF TALES AND MUSIC is FREE and open to the public, reservations are suggested.
