The Arizona Community Foundation
As Arizona's largest private provider of scholarship funding, The Arizona Community Foundation is very pleased to announce a new online scholarship portal that allows students throughout Arizona to apply for more than 60 scholarship awards with a single online application. High school seniors, current college students and/or graduate-level students attending schools anywhere in the United States can apply. Scholarships are available for two-year and four-year colleges and universities as well as technical schools. Students should apply early to qualify for the most awards. Some application periods begin closing in February, while others remain open until as late as May. Go to www.azfoundation.org
to access more than $1 million in scholarships for all fields of study. Some awards are given based on merit or financial need, while others are awarded to students in a particular geographic region or with specific demographic characteristics. |

We Can't Wait: The White House Announces Federal and Private Sector Commitments to Provide Employment Opportunities for Nearly 180,000 Youth.
Today, the White House announced Summer Jobs+, a new call to action for businesses, non-profits, and government to work together to provide pathways to employment for low-income and disconnected youth in the summer of 2012. The President proposed $1.5 billion for high-impact summer jobs and year-round employment for low-income youth ages 16-24 in the American Jobs Act as part of the Pathways Back to Work fund. When Congress failed to act, the Federal government and private sector came together to commit to creating nearly 180,000 employment opportunities for low-income youth in the summer of 2012, with a goal of reaching 250,000 employment opportunities by the start of summer, at least 100,000 of which will be placements in paid jobs and internships

Helios Scholars Program
The Helios Scholars Program at TGen is a paid, eight-week summer internship in biomedical research open to Arizona high school, undergraduate, graduate, and medical school students. Interns work full-time on a research project under the mentorship of a TGen scientist to unravel the genetic components of diabetes, neurological disease, and cancer. Internships are available in all areas of translational bioscience: laboratory and clinical research, computational biology and bioinformatics, mathematics and statistics, and research administration.

The Joaquin Bustoz Math-Science Honors Program is an intense academic program that provides motivated students an outstanding opportunity to begin university mathematics and science studies before graduating high school. The program is designed to provide a successful university experience for students who are underrepresented in the mathematics and science fields and to enhance their prospects for future academic success.

National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA)
Minority Serving Institution (MSI) Internship Program
Summer 2012
The MSI Internship Program is a 10 week paid summer program that enhances diversity and facilitates the development of a world class, safe, and technologically superior workforce for the 21st century. These internships will increase educational opportunities for under-served populations by merging academic study with practical work experience for students majoring in relevant fields and related disciplines. This program will provide professional experience for ethnically diverse students that will enable them to make informed career choices and create a pool of potential, future employees who have had a positive, meaningful work experience with the Federal government through exposure to research and development, technology, and administration. Eligibility Requirements: A United States citizen at least 18 years of age; ACE Alumni majoring in a STEM related field Enrolled as a degree-seeking student maintaining a minimum of a half-time academic course load (as defined by the educational institution in which you are enrolled), Maintaining a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 and be in good academic standing. Selected students will be required to present a 3-page written report about their internship experience to ACE staff and students

Application period begins December 1, 2011 and ends on January 27, 2012 Two ACE Alumni students resumes will be forwarded for consideration to NNSA. Submit your resume, most recent University transcript, two letters of recommendation from your university’s faculty and one page essay to Rosanne Yniguez, Director of Early Outreach, Maricopa ACE Programs, at rosanne.yniguez@domail.maricopa.edu. Please include a cover letter or a one page essay that addresses each of the following questions:
1. What made you become interested in studying a STEM field? What specific area of STEM are you interested in?
2. What are your educational goals? How will the NNSA internship help you achieve these goals?
3. How do your educational and career goals enable you to give back to your community and to future students?
4. NNSA’s core values are excellence, integrity, respect, and teamwork. How have you demonstrated each of these qualities as a student?
