What is the Federal Work-Study Program?
Federal Work Study (FWS) is a program funded by the federal government and is designed to help students gain valuable work experience and supplement their income while attending school. A FWS position is treated just like a normal job, so you must follow proper employee etiquette.

Top Reasons to participate in the Federal Work-Study Program:

  • Flexible hours – schedule around your classes!
  • Gain valuable employment experience – build your resume;
  • Your wages are not counted towards next year’s contribution for financial aid – possibly get more aid!
  • Studies show that students who participate in the Federal Work-Study program have better time management skills and perform better in their studies!

Duties:

  • Provide first contact customer service (in person and telephone) in Advising office;
  • Respond to student email inquiries;
  • Provide students with general information related to advising;
  • Provide support assistance to New Student Orientation and Advising staff; 
  • Responsible for collecting and inputting outreach event data;
  • Responsible for maintaining marketing material in Transfer Center;
  • Maintain and organize advisement area, including department printing and copying;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications *:

  • Must have a complete 2015-16 FAFSA on file and have financial need;
  • Must be enrolled in at least six (6) credit hours;
  • Must meet satisfactory academic progress (SAP);
  • Have experience providing customer service;
  • Have basic clerical experience;
  • Have strong organizational skills;
  • Have strong verbal, and written communication skills.

Pay:

  • $10.00 – $12:00 per hour depending on experience and successful completion of initial training and probation period.

* Students can lose their eligibility for federal work-study throughout the year for the following reasons:

  • If you fall below 6 credit hours of enrollment;
  • If you are not meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP);
  • If your financial aid award package changes after you’ve been awarded federal work-study funds

Job Title: America Reads, America Counts Tutor
Department: Office of Financial Assistance
Pay Rate: $10.00 per hour
Hours per week: P/T, up to 20 hours/ week, between 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

Job Duties/ Qualifications: Tutor for Elementary school children in Reading and Math. Position is off campus, reliable transportation is required. Applicant must be reliable, have good communication skills, able to work well with children. All applicants must comply with health and safety requirements, including but not limited to fingerprinting, background checks and health screening.
