Federal Work Study


Federal Work-Study (FWS) provides part-time jobs for undergraduate and graduate students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay education expenses. The program encourages community service work and work related to the student’s course of study.

To qualify, a student must have filed the FAFSA, completed their student center 'To Do' List, and have financial need as determined by the FAFSA. A minimum enrollment of 6 credits during the semester is required. Check with PVCC's Financial Aid Office to see if you qualify.  Fall semester work schedules may begin as early as August 17, 2013 or as determined by the department.

This position will support the Center for Employee & Organizational Learning Center by greeting visitors, providing ongoing logistical and technical support to assist with college and employee learning programs, activities and workshops.  Applicant should be interested in learning more about program management, student, employee and organizational development, sustainability, positive social change and connecting with our communities and in the development of their own skills in these areas.

·       Must be reliable and able to work independently.

·       Attention to detail and able to work with interruptions.

·       Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task.

Job Title:  America Reads, America Counts Tutor
Department:  Office of Financial Assistance
Pay Rate:  $10.00 per hour
Hours per week:  P/T, up to 20 hours/ week, between 9:00 am - 3:00 pm 

Job Duties/ Qualifications:  Tutor for Elementary school children in Reading and Math. Position is off campus, reliable transportation is required. Applicant must be reliable, have good communication skills, able to work well with children.  All applicants must comply with health and safety requirements, including but not limited to fingerprinting, background checks and health screening.

Job Duties/ Qualifications:

Duties: Greets students, staff, faculty, and the public; performs general office duties; clocks students into TutorTrac to track LSC usage; answers phones; checks resources in and out; answers general questions and directs persons to appropriate offices


·      Has to have excellent customer service skills

·      Needs to be able to work well with persons from varied backgrounds, age groups, and abilities

·      Must be reliable

·      Requires strong communication skills

·      Previous experience working in customer service helpful but not necessary

·      Must be Financial Aid, Federal Work Study eligible and enrolled in 6 units or more

Job Title: Financial Aid Office Student Assistant

Job duties include:
·         Provide first contact customer service at front counter in Welcome Center;

·         Provide student with general information related to financial assistance;

·         Provide students with information regarding the status of their financial aid;

·         Respond to student email inquiries;

·         Maintain and organize student files;

·         Perform other duties as assigned.

·         Must have a complete 2014-15 FAFSA on file and have financial need;

·         Must be enrolled in at least six (6) credit hours;

·         Must meet satisfactory academic progress (SAP);

·         Have experience providing customer service;

·         Have basic clerical experience;

·         Have strong verbal and written communication skills.
