Art For The Absolute Beginner
Do you feel that you ‘can’t draw a straight line with a ruler’? Would you love to create art but don’t know how to begin or how to move past creative blocks? This class is for you. You will learn how to look for shapes, forms, and perspective in everything around you. Students work with water soluble graphite pencils to draw and paint any subject using easy, natural steps. Drawing with Graphite & Charcoal
Explore various subjects using different drawing techniques and tools. You will learn technique and shape forming through shadow and light. You will also learn how to blend work using black and white charcoal, graphite and colored pencil. This course will also study hand and portrait studies, right and left hand usage and landscape. Monotype Printing

In this class you will create unique images that are transferred by hand (no press needed) from a flat surface, called a ‘plate’, to paper. Students will have the opportunity to experience printing from plates made of glass, plastic, art board, collaged plates, and gelatin. Several types of printing inks, as well as acrylic and oil paints, will be demonstrated. Learn how to make and use engraved blocks of various materials and stencils. Mat Cutting Workshop
Save hundreds of dollars when you learn to cut your own mats in this hands-on workshop. Bring your photo or art piece and learn to measure, cut & double mat it. Bring 4 matboards (2 light/neutral outer mats and 2 darker inner mats). An inner and an outer mat will be cut in class. If you make a mistake, or if time allows, the remaining two may be cut. If you can tie a knot you can learn the art of Hand Tied Quilting! Tying refers to the technique of using thread, yarn or ribbon to pass through all three layers of a quilt. Make a small blanket, or group wall hanging, sewing all parts to a quilt by hand. Knowing how to quilt is not necessary.

Beginning Navajo Weaving
Learn to weave the traditional Navajo way while gaining an understanding of the spiritual and cultural aspects of this art. Beginning with spinning the wool, you will learn to warp the loom, design a rug, and weave the traditional Navajo way using authentic Navajo tools, supplies and techniques. Materials such as wool, spindle, battens, combs and needle will be provided. Looms and suppliers will be discussed in the first class. Price will range from $100 - $200 for a loom.

Stained Glass: Beginning

Beginning students learn basic glass cutting techniques, characteristics and history of glass use, copper foil (Tiffany) technique and box constructions. Bob Ross® Painting Workshops

As seen on the PBS “Joy of Painting” program, the Bob Ross® wet-on-wet oil painting method is easy to learn - even for beginners. Complete an entire painting in one class, with no experience necessary.
Brushes, paints, palette knife and thinner can be conveniently rented for $20, payable in cash to the instructor.
Supply list & photos of the paintings are at: www.paradisevalley.edu/ce.
An 18x24 canvas, paper towels, baby wipes and trash bag must be supplied by the student.
For best results, Bob Ross® brushes and paints are recommended. We will be setting up your workstation at 8:10am so everyone is ready to paint promptly at 8:30am. Register early as class size is limited. Bring a sack lunch.
