North Valley Battle of the Bands

In an effort to strengthen our ties with our feeder high schools and the North Valley Community, and to create more scholarship opportunities for all North Valley students, Paradise Valley Community College will sponsor and host a Battle of the Bands Competition. In addition to performing as part of two live concerts, these selected groups will have the opportunity to record up to three songs in PVCC's music recording studio. Proceeds from all North Valley Battle of the Bands CDs and merchandise sales will be used to create scholarships for future students in the commercial music program at PVCC.

 

 

Battle of the Bands Eligibility

 

High School Division

• All local bands that have members in a North, Northeast or Northwest Valley High School are eligible.

 

• At least 50% of the current membership of the band must be enrolled at a North, Northeast or Northwest Valley High School.


College Division


• At least two members of the band must be currently enrolled for 6 credit hours at PVCC
or one member of the band must be currently enrolled for 12 credit hours at PVCC.


Battle of the Bands Guidelines



• Only original songs or compositions will be accepted in this competition. All entered students must sign a letter of authenticity in regards to the nominated song or composition.

        

• All styles of music are welcome.

 

Explicit lyrics are strictly prohibited.

 

• All application materials must be completed and submitted to the Music Department at Paradise Valley Community College by 4:00pm on Wednesday, November 21, 2007.

 

• Each band that has successfully completed the application process will be invited to perform in a preliminary round of competition on Saturday, December 1, 2007. This round will be adjudicated by a panel of judges created by the Music Department at PVCC.

 

• Upon approval of the adjudicating panel, the selected bands will be scheduled for a professional recording session at PVCC. The selected bands will work with the recording engineer and members of the PVCC Music Department to produce a CD recording of up to three songs per participating band. The recording session will take place between January 22, 2008 and February 26, 2008.

 

• All recorded songs will be mastered onto the North Valley Battle of the Bands compilation CD.

 

• All selected solo or groups acts will perform as part of a live concert at PVCC to celebrate the North Valley Battle of the Bands Competition. This concert will be Friday, May 2, 2008.

 

Proceeds from all North Valley Battle of the Bands CDs and merchandise sales will be used to create scholarships for future students in the commercial music program at PVCC.


Battle of the Bands Application




• All application materials must be completed and submitted to the Music Department at Paradise Valley Community College by 4:00pm on Wednesday, November 21, 2007.

• Applications can be faxed to the PVCC Music Department at (602) 787-7285. Please attached a cover letter address to PVCC Music Department.
