North Valley Battle of the Bands

                                                   Adjudication Criteria

 

 

            Listed below are the principle criteria by which each of the entrants will be judged in order to select the qualifying bands. 
            It is not meant to be an exhaustive list, as each judge is allowed flexibility in determining their overall impressions of the bands.

 

            Criteria

                        Songwriting:   

-       cohesiveness of writing within the chosen musical style

-       completeness of arrangement including typical structural elements such as intro, verse, chorus, and ending

-       cohesive lyrical statement supporting a unifying theme

Performance:

-       energetic presentation, professionalism

-       cohesion of rhythm section instruments

-       consistent tempo unless a change is required by the composition

-       rhythmic tightness of all unison riffs and passages

-       pitch correctness in all parts, with a premium placed on in-tune lead and backup vocals

Sound:

-       well balanced ensemble

-       appropriate sounds for the chosen musical style

-       instruments that are in tune and well maintained

 

In addition to the judge's announcement of the qualifying bands, each group will receive a copy of the handwritten comments of the judges. 
The qualifying bands will also receive an informational handout describing the next phases of the competition, beginning with recording
sessions that will take place in Jan/Feb of 2007.

 

To assist the judges, each band is required to provide a type written copy of the lyrics to each of the performed songs prior to playing.
